Sublimation on Plush Towels, Blankets & Scarves

Sublimation produces vibrant, permanent, full-color decoration with virtually no ink feel. On plush textiles, however, the heat-press process can temporarily change how the fabric looks and feels. Here's what to expect.

Why does a sublimated plush product look flatter?

During sublimation, the textile is pressed under high heat. On plush products such as towels, blankets and scarves, this can temporarily compress the fibers, making the finished product appear less plush immediately after decoration. The weight and construction of the product remain the same.

How Sublimation Works

The artwork becomes part of the fabric rather than sitting on top of it.

Your full-color design is digitally printed onto specialty transfer paper.

Heat & Pressure Are Applied

The transfer and textile are placed under controlled heat and pressure, allowing the dye to transfer into the fabric fibers.

Fibers May Look Compressed

Heat and pressure can temporarily flatten the surface fibers of plush towels, blankets and scarves. This can make the item look thinner or less fluffy even though the actual product weight has not changed.

After Washing

The Plush Fibers Recover

Washing helps release and restore the compressed fibers toward their original plush form. The sublimated decoration remains permanently embedded in the fabric and will not wash away like surface-applied ink.

If a newly sublimated towel, blanket or scarf appears flatter than expected, give it a wash. Plush fibers can recover considerably after washing and continue improving through subsequent washes while the sublimated design remains vibrant.
